Reading Rush 2019 TBR

Hey, guys!

It's time for the first-ever Reading Rush readathon! This readathon was previously called the Booktube-A-Thon! I'm so excited about the changes that Ariel and Raeleen put into place! What are you reading for this awesome readathon?

Stay tuned for my Twitter engagement and Instagram reading updates! I'll also be updating on my Reading Rush page and Goodreads!

Twitter: {here}
Instagram: {here}
Goodreads: {here}
Reading Rush: {here}

Challenge 1:

Purple on the cover

Renegades (Renegades #1) by Marissa Meyer

28421168

I plan on reading this with a couple of friends! I'm so excited to continue catching up on Marissa Meyer's books!

Challenge 2:

Read a book in the same spot

The Near Witch by V.E. Schwab & Mooncakes by Suzanne Walker and Wendy Xu

4359127344774415

Back when The Near Witch was repackaged and republished in March, Alex (my boyfriend) and I decided to preorder gorgeous hardbacks from the UK book store Forbidden Planet. We were so intrigued by the premise and we've really enjoyed the Schwab books we've picked up previously. Alex managed to read the entire book in under 12 hours and he really enjoyed it. I'm eager to see what I think.

Mooncakes was available to read through NetGalley without any problem, so I'm really excited to see what I think of this lovely little graphic novel. It looks so colorful and cute.

Challenge 3:

Read a book that you meant to read last year

Sky in the Deep by Adrienne Young

34726469

I've been meaning to read this since it came out, but I only acquired this early this year. My boyfriend, Alex, really adored the audiobook for this book. I cannot wait to dive in!

Challenge 4:

An author's first book

The Near Witch

43591273

I plan on doubling up on this challenge. This is Schwab's first published work, just with a new cover and some extra bits. I also plan on reading the short story at the end: The Ash-Born Boy

Challenge 5:

Non-human character

4359127334726469

I believe that the main character of The Near Witch is a witch or comes in contact with a witch. Either way, there is some paranormal activity! I think there might be a god-character in Sky in the Deep too. I'm not quite sure, but with all the books I'm reading, I'm pretty sure I'll be encountering a non-human character.

Challenge 6:

A book with 5+ words in the title

The Lost Kingdom of Bamarre (The Two Princesses of Bamarre #0.5) by Gail Carson Levine

31371284. sy475

I picked this up for this challenge really late last night before the readathon started. I plan on listening to this via audio through my library. When I was young, my favorite books were by Gail Carson Levine and I'm so eager to see what I think of this prequel to the

Challenge 7:

Read a book and watch its adaptation

The Spring Girls by Anna Todd

36135426. sy475

This is a modern-day retelling of Little Women - one of my all-time favorite books..ever. The reviews on Goodreads are looking pretty bleak for this one, so I'm not surprised if I end up DNF-ing it. Though I'm hopeful for the best. I plan on starting this book via audio through my library and seeing how it goes from there. I also have the physical book on my shelves.

What are you reading for the readathon?

Happy reading!

{Summer BookTube-A-Thon #3} Wrap Up & Day-By-Day Update

Hey, guys!

This past week was so much fun! I was actually really busy, surprisingly. I wasn't expecting to do much when it came to participating in this readathon, but I actually was pretty active in the Instagram (bookstagram) challenges and I did quite a few reading sprints throughout the week. I couldn't actively do the sprints, but I did some. Last year, I was really into the sprints, but this year I found myself doing the sprints for about 45 minutes and then just binge-reading my books.

This week I managed to read 6 books. Next year I'll read the seven, but this year it wasn't meant to be. The last couple days of booktubeathon were much busier and I was getting slumpy. I'm actually writing this up Monday afternoon and I'm majorly slumpy. I have two books I'm actively reading and neither are doing it for me. I have another book I'm considering starting, but I have 8 books on my "currently reading" shelf on Goodreads, and that is just excessive. It's time to finish those books!

The Books I Read & Finished:

  1. The Demigod Diaries by Rick Riordan
    • 4 stars
  2. The Fangirl's Guide to the Galaxy by Sam Maggs

{Book-Tube-A-Thon 2017} TBR

Hey, guys!

Once again, I'm putting my TBR up really late! It's already 10:45 AM on Day 1 of  booktube-a-thon and I haven't really read anything. I stayed up and read 13 pages for the first sprint, but I've had a long weekend so I needed sleep.

I've been taking part in the BookTube-A-Thon since the summer of 2015, so I'm so excited to do my third summer BTAT! I've been waiting for this all summer! I really want to read 7 books this week, but if I don't get my butt in gear, it won't happen! Today I'm going to type up the two reviews for this week and then I'll get cracking on my reading. I'm so excited to do some sprints tonight!!!

Ariel (from Ariel Bissett) released the challenges a couple weeks ago, so if you'd like to check out the video I'll leave the links you'll need!

Here's My TBR!

1/ Read a book with a person on the cover.

The Fangirl's Guide to the Galaxy: A Handbook for Girl Geeks by Sam Maggs

I started this on a whim when I got it on Saturday. I think it will be super cute and a bit informative too.

2/ Read a hyped book.

Red Rising by Pierce Brown

This book is raved about by Tasha from Tashaopolis, so I'm so excited to dive into this one.
15839976

3/ Finish a book in one day.

Winnie-the-Pooh by A.A. Milne

I've been such a fan of A.A. Milne's creation for the longest time...well since birth... and I'm so excited to go back to the world of Winnie-the-Pooh!

235597

4/ Read about a character that is very different from you.

Marlena by Julie Buntin

This book deals with teen consumption of drugs, alcohol, and other dangerous substances; along with teen suicide. I'm interested to see where this book will go.
30199414

5/ Finish a book completely outdoors.

I'm banking on Winnie-the-Pooh to get me through that challenge.

235597

6/ Read a book you bought because of the cover.

I don't usually buy books because of the cover. I'm frugal enough that I buy books because I've either: heard of them and genuinely want to read them, I love the author, it's a part of a series that I plan to read or have yet to finish, or because I've already read it but want a finished copy/my own copy.

I guess I'll have to pick The Ever-Never Handbook by Soman Chainani. It has all of the qualities that I've mentioned above (I love the series and author, I wanted to read it, it's a part of the SFG&E series, and I wanted to read it before Quests for Glory came out) not to mention it has a gorgeous cover!

27203016

7/ Read seven books.

All the Feels by Danika Stone

The Demigod Diaries by Rick Riordan

I picked All the Feels because I'm always down for a contemporary, a nerdy protagonist, and a fandom fueled plot. I'm so excited for this book. The main character's name is Liv!!!!

I picked The Demigod Diaries because I love Rick Riordan, I've been needing to read this, it's short, and there's a short story by his son Haley. I just need this in my life. Maybe this will convince me to do a reread of the series. I really want to read and discuss them with everyone. I need that nostalgia!

I'm so excited to dive into these! Join me on Twitter to do some reading sprints this week!

Happy reading!

The BFG by Roald Dahl

6319
Page Count: 195
Published on: November 1, 1982
Published by: Puffin
Genre(s): Children's, Fiction, Classics, YA
Source: Paperback
Age Rating: PG
Where To Find ItGoodreads // Amazon
Twitter: @roald_dahl
My Rating: 3 stars

Goodreads synopsis:

Captured by a giant! The BFG is no ordinary bone-crunching giant. He is far too nice and jumbly. It's lucky for Sophie that he is. Had she been carried off in the middle of the night by the Bloodbottler, the Fleshlumpeater, the Bonecruncher, or any of the other giants-rather than the BFG-she would have soon become breakfast.
When Sophie hears that they are flush-bunking off in England to swollomp a few nice little chiddlers, she decides she must stop them once and for all. And the BFG is going to help her

Hey, guys!

I read this book for the BookTube-A-Thon and I wasn't as impressed as I thought I would be. This was a really cute & funny story, but it wasn't the best children's story I've ever read. The main character, Sophie was so innocent and adorable and it was really nice to read about a little girl who was as innocent as Sophie. I can see why children love Roald Dahl's work, but I do believe that it's not written for someone my age. I am very familiar with Dahl's Charlie & the Chocolate Factory and Matilda, but I've never read the books! And to be honest, I'm not sure if I will. I've seen the movies so much that I may just pass. Comment down below if you think I should read them, though.

The hype around the movie for this book is unreal, and from what I got from the trailers, it looks like it could be really cute. So, I read the book. It didn't live up to the hype...at least for me. The hype led me to believe that his would be a phenomenal children's book and movie. And though this book was cute, it wasn't what it was hyped up to be. I know that I'm definitely going to watch the movie because it was a super cute book, but I think the movie would improve upon the story. I felt like the book was really rushed and it could have been executed better. The conflict was a minuscule part of the story and it was resolved too quickly and it was very anticlimactic. Overall, it was too easy and disappointing.

If you have a younger sibling, friend, or child that loves magical stories like this, then I highly recommend it!

Summer Cram-A-Thon & Summer BookTube-A-Thon 2016 Wrap Up

Hey, guys!

The Summer 2016 Cram-a-Thon is now over so that means it's time to share the books that I've read in the past few days. I didn't really start reading seriously until day 2 or 3 of the cram-a-thon because weekends have been really busy lately. So I didn't read all of the books on my TBR even though they weren't very long.

Here are the books that I've read in the past 4 days:
  • Fantastic Beast & Where To Find Them by Newt Scamander (J.K. Rowling)
  • Attack On Titan Volume 1 by Hajime Isayama & Sheldon Drzka
  • Attack On Titan Volume 2 by Hajime Isayama & Sheldon Drzka
  • Attack On Titan Volume 3 by Hajime Isayama & Sheldon Drzka
  • The Hidden Oracle by Rick Riordan (only 70 pages)
Pages Read: 724
Number of Books Read: 4

Challenges Completed:

  1. Read a book under 200 pages (Fantastic Beasts, AoT #1 & 2)
  2. Read a graphic novel (AoT #1-3)
  3. Read a book you've never finished  (AoT #1)
  4. Read a novella/short story (Fantastic Beasts)
  5. Read a book written in verse
  6. Read 5 books total (This almost happened, but I had a third of The Hidden Oracle left so only 4 counts. ;) )
I finished 4 challenges this time around (1-4) and I completed 4 books. 3 graphic novels and a short story/book. I wasn't exactly trying to complete any challenges, but I was trying to read as much as I could. I actually read the most on the last day of the read-a-thon, which surprises me because it was my busiest day.

BookTube-A-Thon Wrap Up

Guys! I am so proud of myself! I read 7 books for the BookTubeAThon! Granted, four were manga volumes of Attack On Titan, but I consider graphic novels and manga to be literature and actual books. Graphic novels and manga both have so much work put into them -- just like an orthodox novel. I don't think they should be left out of the literature label. Anyway, I had a great week of reading and I can't wait for the next BookTubeAThon! I loved this so much. I enjoyed this year much more than I did last year because I actually got involved with Twitter-sprints and the Instagram challenges. Next year, I hope to get involved with the video challenges as well. This year, that just couldn't happen. I loved watching everyone's video updates, their Goodreads updates, and the tweets that everyone posted. It was so lovely to see this amazing community united and enjoying the written word. I'm pretty sure this community is the best community to be in.

Challenges:
  1. Yellow on the cover
  2. Only read a book after sunset
  3. Read a book that you discovered on BookTube
  4. Read a book by your favorite author
  5. Read a book that is older than you
  6. Read & watch a book and it's movie adaptation
  7. Read 7 books
I managed to complete 5 &1/2 challenges! I did read 7 books, but I did not read a book that was older than me and I didn't manage to watch the movie adaptation of The BFG..but I did rewatch an episode of Attack On Titan :D Does that even count? I don't even know. Anyway, I loved these challenges. Anyway, I've read all of Reagan's Attack On Titan volumes, so there may not be any more AoT updates for a while. (Manga volumes are so expensive! Reagan just bought 3 volumes and the total price was ridiculous! I don't think I will ever buy manga volumes...library here I come...) Here are the books that I read this week and how they fulfilled the challenges.

Here are the books I read:
  1. Rules of the Road by Joan Bauer ~ Challenge 1
  2. Attack On Titan Volume 4 by Hajime Isayama ~ Challenge 2
  3. The BFG by Roald Dahl ~ Challenge 2 ~ Challenge 6?
  4. Attack On Titan Volume 5 by Hajime Isayama ~Challenge 6?
  5. Attack On Titan Volume 6 by Hajime Isayama ~ Challenge 2
  6. Broken Hearts, Fences, & Other Things To Mend by Katie Finn (Morgan Matson) ~ Challenge 3 & 4
  7. Attack On Titan Volume 7 by Hajime Isayama ~ Challenge 2
# Of Pages Read: about 1,596 pages
# Of Books Read: 7 & about 40 pages of Six Of Crows

Summer BookTube-A-Thon 2016 TBR

Hey, guys!

It's that time again! Last year, I took part of the BookTube-A-Thon and I read 5 books during that week. This year I hope that I read at least 5 books. Lately, I've been in a slump (thanks a lot ACOMF!). So, I've picked a few short books that I've been meaning to read for a while.

Like last year, there are 7 reading challenges:

  1. Read a book with yellow on the cover
  2. Read a book only after sunset.
  3. Read a book you discovered through booktube.
  4. Read a book by one of your favourite authors.
  5. Read a book that is older than you.
  6. Read and watch a book-to-movie adaptation
  7. Read seven books.
Seven books is pretty ambitious for me, because I'm so busy during the week, but I plan non reading as much as I can, even if the books don't coinside with the challenges. So I guess here are those books:
  • Challenge 1: Rules of the Road by Joan Bauer
  • Challenge 2: Phage by Mark Tamplin (RE, Attack On Titan Volume 4 (not shown), or Never by Shay Lynam (Kindle ARC)
  • Challenge 3: Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo
  • Challenge 4: Peter Pan by J.M. Barrie
  • Challenge 5: The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton
  • Challenge 6: The BFG by Roald Dahl

That's 8 books! Hopefully I get through most of these books. I've already started a couple of these books, but not far enough that it would be a big deal. Comment down below if you're participateing in the BookTube-A-Thon and the books that you're planning on reading.

Don't forget to check out the LivTheBookClub read-along too! We're reading Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo! Click {here} to join!

Happy reading!
