{Bookish Subscription Box} Book of the Month #4: October

    Hey, guys!

I'm coming back to you with another Book-of-the-Month-Club monthly unboxing! I decided to treat myself after my birthday and get a couple books from the October box... I know. You've probably seen my Fall 2017 Book Haul and you've laughed at me. My birthday "treat yo'self" mantra really got out of hand, but I am so excited to read these books. They look absolutely fantastic. I have never read a Stephen King novel, so Sleeping Beauties (or The Gunslinger) should be a really great way to dive into his work.

What Is The Book Of The Month Club??

Book of the Month is a monthly book subscription box. Each month, 5 curators pick out their favorite new hardcover books, and you can choose which one you want to receive on the first of the month. You can also add up to 2 additional books for only $9.99 each.

    How It Works:

    1. New selections are chosen each month. On the 1st of the month, the site announces the 5 books that they chose for the month.
    2. Choose your book! Choose by the 6th, or skip the month.
    3. The boxes are shipped and you get a beautiful BOTM box and book!

Shipping: U.S. only (apologies to my international readers!)

Overall Product: Subscribers will receive a hardcover book from the books that were selected that month. You can add up to 2 extra books for $9.99 each plus BOTM goodies for an additional fee.

    October Picks:
    • Manhattan Beach by Jennifer Egan
    • The Power by Naomi Alderman
    • The Dark Lake by Sarah Bailey
    • Beasts of Extraordinary Circumstance: A Novel by Ruth Emmie Lang
    • After the Eclipse A Mother's Murder, A Daughter's Search: A Memoir by Sarah Perry
    Extras:
    • Sleeping Beauties by Stephen King & Owen King
    • Turtles All the Way Down by John Green

    My October Box:

    About Sleeping Beauties:
    [Goodreads]

In a future so real and near it might be now, something happens when women go to sleep; they become shrouded in a cocoon-like gauze. If they are awakened, if the gauze wrapping their bodies is disturbed or violated, the women become feral and spectacularly violent; and while they sleep they go to another place. The men of our world are abandoned, left to their increasingly primal devices. One woman, however, the mysterious Evie, is immune to the blessing or curse of the sleeping disease. Is Evie a medical anomaly to be studied, or is she a demon who must be slain?

    About Beasts of Extraordinary Circumstance:

Orphaned, raised by wolves, and the proud owner of a horned pig named Merlin, Weylyn Grey knew he wasn’t like other people. But when he single-handedly stopped that tornado on a stormy Christmas day in Oklahoma, he realized just how different he actually was.

That tornado was the first of many strange events that seem to follow Weylyn from town to town, although he doesn’t like to take credit. As amazing as these powers may appear, they tend to manifest themselves at inopportune times and places. From freak storms to trees that appear to grow over night, Weylyn’s unique abilities are a curiosity at best and at worst, a danger to himself and the woman he loves. But Mary doesn’t care. Since Weylyn saved her from an angry wolf on her eleventh birthday, she’s known that a relationship with him isn’t without its risks, but as anyone who’s met Weylyn will tell you, once he wanders into your life, you’ll wish he’d never leave.

Beasts of Extraordinary Circumstance tells the story of Weylyn Grey’s life from the perspectives of the people who knew him, loved him, and even a few who thought he was just plain weird. Although he doesn’t stay in any of their lives for long, he leaves each of them with a story to tell. Stories about a boy who lives with wolves, great storms that evaporate into thin air, fireflies that make phosphorescent honey, and a house filled with spider webs and the strange man who inhabits it.

There is one story, however, that Weylyn wishes he could change: his own. But first he has to muster enough courage to knock on Mary’s front door.

In this warm debut novel, Ruth Emmie Lang teaches us about adventure and love in a beautifully written story full of nature and wonder.

My Other BOTM Club Blog Posts:

      Hey, guys!

Once again I've managed to acquire an absurd amount of books! I didn't realize how many books I acquired over this past month. I've kind of acquired 26 books this month...seven are from authors/publishers, but I've still managed to buy quite a lot of books. I only bought three of the books full priced and I bought the rest of the books on BookOutlet or Amazon for a super cheap price. Not to mention, BookOutlet had a sale this month...which was fantastic!

      May 2017 Book Haul

      Hey, guys!

This month has been a crazy and busy time. I finished my first year of college (all A's my second semester!) and ACOWAR has FINALLY come out! I kind of went on an ACOTAR binge and treated myself to the different editions of ACOWAR and managed to accidentally acquire way too many books. I managed to buy 17 books this month, trade for 2, and I was sent 6 books from authors/publishers. It's really quite ridiculous...I broke it down this month and narrowed it down into different categories. Not only did it help with making it look less ridiculous, it helped when documenting and taking pictures for this post. I didn't have much time this past weekend or this morning to take pictures in a decent setting, so one of my shelves had to do. I couldn't do a huge group picture this time, but enjoy these random-ish groupings!

I actually placed three different orders this past month...2 during the huge sale and 1 with a code that was a bookstagram exclusive.

        February 2017 Book Haul

        Hey, guys!

I did so well this past month! Well...it looks like I did...I actually ordered more books on Book Depository and pre-ordered a few books on Amazon, but they're not here yet so it looks like I did well. *sneaky grin* Here are the books that I bought/received this month.

        • The Odyssey by Homer
          • I read this book in high school and I meant to reread it for one of my history classes for a paper, but I may just end up skimming and spark-noting it. I'm not even sure. I'd love to reread it, but it's just so dense and archaically written. It would take a while.
        • The Phantom of the Opera by Gaston Leroux
          • Oh my gosh I love Phantom. I've already read and reviewed this on the blog, so I'll link the review into this little blurb.
          • Review: {click here}
        • On A LARP by Stephani Deoul
          • This book was sent to me for an honest review, and I plan on reading it very soon. I can't wait to go into this world
        • Caraval by Stephanie Garber
          • My amazing boyfriend bought this for me for Valentines Day and it's absolutely gorgeous! I cannot wait to get into this book. I've only heard wonderful things.
        Pre-orders:
        • A Court of Wings & Ruin by Sarah J. Maas
        • Flame In the Mist by Renee Ahdieh
        • The ACOTAR/ACOMAF coloring book
        Other Orders:
        • Wintersong by S. Jae Jones
        • Glass Sword by Victoria Aveyard
        Bookish-Related Goodies (Ordered and Received)

        Ordered:

        • 2 Candles from @BiblioFlames on Etsy
          • I ordered 2 candles from her clearance sale, but I'm hopefully getting 2 2oz candles: Night Court & Hufflepuff Common Room
        • 1 painted copy of A Court of Mist & Fury (by Sarah J. Mass) by @cityoffiction on Etsy
        Received:

        • Fantastic Beasts magnetic bookmarks (6)
        • (3) ACOMAF quote magnetic bookmarks
        • To the Stars quote boomark (1)

I love supporting independent bookish Etsy artists. I think their work is so fantastic and I love the variety that there is. If I could buy everything that they put out, I would.

        Favorites:

        • ACourtOfCandle's Hufflepuff candle
        • To The Stars Who Listen... paper bookmark
        • The Niffler mag bookmark
        • I am broken... mag bookmark
I can't wait to show you all my newer packages that come soon. I'll post unboxings on Instagram, so follow me there for impromptu unboxings! I'm also trying to post every day, so I hope you enjoy that.

        Happy reading, everyone!
