Goodreads synopsis:
Magic is BAD.
As in fake. Cheesy. Unreal. At least, that's what Clay, who has seen one magic show too many, thinks.
When words from his journal appear mysteriously on his school wall as graffiti, he never imagines that magic might be to blame. And when the same graffiti lands him at Earth Ranch, a camp for "troubled" kids on a remote volcanic island, magic is the last thing he expects to find there.
But at Earth Ranch, there is one strange surprise after another, until Clay no longer knows what to expect. Is he really talking to a llama? Did he really see a ghost? What is the scary secret hidden in the abandoned library? The only thing he knows for sure is that behind the clouds of vog (volcanic smog), nothing is as it seems. Can he solve the riddle of Earth Ranch before trouble erupts?
Elusive author Pseudonymous Bosch introduces an extraordinary new series that will have you believing in the unbelievable.

If you love mysteries and adventure and kick butt characters you will love this series. Now onto Bad Magic! Bad Magic is a spin-off, basically, of the secret series. It takes place after quite a bit of time has passed after the end of You Have To Stop This.
Clay HATES magic. After his brother Max-Ernest randomly leaves he removes any kind of magic from his life, whether it be card tricks, rope tricks, or even fantasy novels. Clay refuses to have anything to do with magic. One day, after school, Clay writes "MAGIC SUCKS" in a journal his English teacher gives him, and the next day it shows up on the wall of the English class! His parents decide to send Clay to Earth Ranch. Earth Ranch is a camp for "wayward youths". There is absolutely nothing on the internet about the camp except that it is located on an island with an active volcano, Price Island.
This book was so cool! I loved the action and the whole writing style! PB has once again written a masterpiece. The way he narrates the book is so original and hilarious. I loved how he tied in the Secret series but didn't completely base Bad Magic off of it. I really really really hope this is a start of a new series because my sisters and I would read the heck out of these! I also loved how he tied in The Tempest throughout the book! Stupendous! I hope Clay sees his brother again... hahaha...Guys read the Secret series! Read Bad Magic!
Least Favorite Character: Clay's parents
You will love this book guys! If you have siblings or family members that are around 12 to 14 years old they will love it too! I'm almost 18 and I loved it so it's not just for younger kids! If you loved the Secret series you will most definitely love Bad Magic!
Enjoy!
Until next time!
