August 2019 TBR - ARCs, The Magical Readathon, and More!

Hey, guys!

This month is going to be so busy, but I'm ready!

August has always been a hectic month for me as I've always started school this month. This year will be my last year of college. My last year. I'm not sure what's going to happen, but I'm going to take it day-by-day.

Until school starts back up -- I will be reading as much as I can, preparing for my classes, and writing as many reviews as I can -- and working on my book if I can recover the files from my hard drive. Yup! My computer kapooted and my hard drive might be dead. I'm currently waiting to see if my files can be recovered. BACK UP YOUR FILES, MY FRIENDS!

Here are the books I would like to read this month!

First, I decided to take part in the NEWTs! It's a part of Book Roast's Magical Readathon that she does.

I've decided to pursue a wizard career as a journalist/writer. It's one of the easier careers, so it ought to be a good sort of practice for when I do the entire readathon next year.

Here are my reading choices!

+ History of Magic-
  • E: a book that includes a map: NEVERNIGHT by Jay Kristoff
  • A: read a fantasy - GODSGRAVE by Jay Kristoff
+ Muggle Studies -
  •  A:  cover with an actual photo element (person, item, place) - THE GIRL THE SEA GAVE BACK by Adrienne Young (eARC)
+ Transfiguration -
  • A: a book with LGBTQIA+ rep -- A DARKER SHADE OF MAGIC by V.E. Schwab
Four books ought to be manageable for the month. Stay tuned to see how I manage!

~~~
I also plan on attempting to read some more books. Hopefully, my reading month is just as good as July.
  1. Ziggy Stardust & Me by James Brandon - ARC for a blog tour August 12
  2. Stalking Jack the Ripper by Kerri Maniscalco
  3. The Good Luck Girls by Charlotte Nicole Davis - ARC
  4. Good Omens by Neil Gaiman & Terry Pratchett - audio
  5. Renegades by Marissa Meyer
  6. The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid
  7. Forever, Interrupted by Taylor Jenkins Reid - audio
  8. Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens - library
  9. Spin the Dawn by Elizabeth Lim - library
  10. The Whisper Network by Chandler Baker
Will I read all of these books? Stay tuned to find out!
Happy reading!
{Read-A-Thon} TomeTopple TBR
Hey, guys!
It's that time again! The Tome Topple read-a-thon is here! I know this is going up pretty late, but I have no regrets. I've already announced my TBR on Twitter and Instagram, so if you'd like more prompt updates, go on ahead and check those out! This year I'm keeping it pretty chill and reading books I've already started and books that I know I won't finish in the two weeks. 4 books with over 500 pages in two weeks is pretty ambitious. I already have so many books that I should be reading, so this should be fun. I'm definitely going to be reading more than just these books. I have too many books to get to. Here are the books I'm hoping to get to!
I originally planned to try to read 5 books for this readathon, but I've reduced it down to 4. I have quite a few books to get to in July, so I'm hoping to get through these beautiful books.
  1. Tower of Dawn (Throne of Glass #6) by Sarah J. Maas
    • 664 pages
    • I went into the readathon with 100 pages read of this beautiful book. I'm not too worried about "cheating" my goal is to just finish these books.
  2. Children of Blood and Bone by Tomi Adeyemi
    • 525 pages
    • Alex is very excited about this. He loved CBB.
  3. Obsideo (The Illuminae Files #3) by Jay Kristoff and Amie Kaufman
    • 615 pages
    • I might try to find the audiobook for this one. I loved listening and reading to Illuminae and Gemina.
  4. Crooked Kingdom (Six of Crows #2) by Leigh Bardugo
    • 546 pages
    • I'm actually 1/2 through this one. I just need to finish this book. I've feared finishing it for too long. I'm buddy reading CK with a bunch of lovely ladies on Instagram for the next week.
Total Page Count: 2,350
# of Pages I Should Read Per Day: 168
Time Frame: June 29 - July 12
Challenges:
1. Read more than 1 tome ~ I have 4 books! 2. Read a graphic novel (still over 500 pages!) ~ not doing 3. Read a tome that is part of a series ~any of my books 4. Buddy read a tome ~Crooked Kingdom 5. Read an adult novel ~ not doing
Top 10 Series I NEED to Finish
Hey, guys!
      I'm sooo behind on soo many series that I want to continue, but I just haven't. Time is so hard to come by when you're in college. I'm making it a goal to at least finish half of these series this year. I think I can do it! Some are ongoing, but some are going to be wrapped up this year, so it should be fun. Here are the series I want to finish or continue!
  1. The A Court of Thorns and Roses series by Sarah J. Maas - This is pretty obvious, but I will always include this series in a list if I can. I HIGHLY recommend this series! It's fantastic and I hope everyone loves it too.
  2. The Mortal Instruments, The Infernal Devices, and The Dark Artifices series by Cassandra Clare - I'm so behind on these series. I'm halfway through book 3 of TMI, but I've put it on hold. I know I'll back to it soon, but I hope to this year.
  3. The Red Queen series by Victoria Aveyard - I've read the first book (back when it first came out), but I haven't kept up with the series actively. It sounds interesting, so I hope I get back to it. I have The Glass Sword sitting on my TBR.
  4. The Grisha series by Leigh Bardugo - I am so excited for the new Grisha series. I've read all but the last half of Crooked Kingdom and I haven't read Ruin and Rising, but I am so excited to finish the original trilogy, finish CK, and start the new series.
  5. The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer - this is such a great series! I just haven't read Fairest or Stars Above yet. I also think that the Wires and Nerve graphic novels go along with the series and I've been dying to pick those up. They look fantastic!
  6. Dorothy Must Die series by Danielle Paige - I have yet to read books 4 and 5 of the series as well as the novellas. I loved the first 3 books, but I have not actively kept up with purchasing or reading the books. The 3rd book wasn't as good, so I'm okay to wait a bit more to read the books. I liked it well enough to finish the series. The world and the story were great!
  7. The Undertow trilogy by Michael Buckley - OH. MY. GOSH. I loved this book. It was fantastic and one of my favorite books of 2015. Michael Buckley has written some of my favorite books of all time (The Sisters Grimm series) and I love love loved Undertow. I have Raging Sea, but I have yet to read it. I didn't get it until a year after its release, so I need to reread Undertow before I read the sequel and final installment. I just cannot wait to do it.
  8. Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas - I'm terrified to read Tower of Dawn and book #7. I don't want this story to end and I don't want my favorite character's stories to end either. I love this series so much. I am dreading and longing for October 30th at the same time. It will be a monumental day in the bookish community.
  9. Anything by Tamora Pierce - One of my fantasy queens. The world of Tortall is so fantastically written. I love love love her Song of the Lioness Quartet. It is fantastic. I highly recommend. I have read two other series by her, but I want to read every single one of her books one day. It is long overdue.
  10. The Ember in the Ashes series by Sabaa Tahir - I adore Sabaa. She is a delight. I read Ember when it first came out and really loved it, but I haven't continued on with the series yet. I really need to. I know it will be something I adore.
  11. The Trials of Apollo and Magnus Bane series by Rick Riordan (and any other books he writes) - I need to catch up on these series. I love Rick Riordan. Anything he writes is a slam dunk.
    1. Magnus 1
    2. Magnus 2
    3. Apollo 1
    4. Blood of Olympus
    5. The Demigod Diaries
What series are you dying to finish or continue? Let me know down in the comments! Let's discuss the awesome series we love!
Happy reading!
(Late) May 2017 TBR
Written: May 10, 2017
Hey, guys!
     I know this is going up pretty late and it's actually just a random decision I made maybe an hour ago, so it's not like it's super planned. I realize I've only read 1 book so far this month, but I'm half way through A Court of Wings & Ruin (I'm taking it slow and savoring) and I plan on continuing the Throne of Glass series soon after finishing ACOWAR. So I'm just going to call it "May: The Month of Maas" (cue dramatic and theatrical gestures). I'm done with school for the summer, but I'll be catching up on reading, writing reviews, and working. I'm going to be figuring out my time management schedule again. It changes all the time!
      I've already started the month with Throne of Glass and the first half of A Court of Wings & Ruin, so Crown of Midnight, Heir of Fire, and Queen of Shadows will by next on my reading TBR. I'm collecting the ACOTAR series in all of the editions I can get my hands on, so those aren't an issue, but I'm collecting the ToG series in paperback at this moment, so I do not own Empire of Storms or The Assassin's Blade quite yet. I might pick them up at the library, but I'd rather stick to the books I have on my physical TBR. So, I doubt I'll pick them up until I find them in U.S. paperback.
Stay tuned for my May 2017 Wrap Up for the final book count and to see all that I read!
My Sarah J. Maas TBR:
  • Throne of Glass {read: 5 stars}
  • Crown of Midnight
  • Heir of Fire
  • Queen of Shadows
  • A Court of Wings & Ruin {cr: page 339/705}
I absolutely adore SJM's writing. Her stories are just so fantastically done and I can't wait to read all of her work. I'm pretty sure her books are going to be automatic buys in the near future. She is swiftly becoming one of my top 10 favorite authors...
If you'd like to join me in Maas May, then please DM me on any of my social media handles (listed below).
Happy reading!
